As the NHL Trade Deadline rapidly approaches, there is speculation that the Bruins will be moving some pieces in an attempt to kickstart a rebuild. The playoffs are still in reach for Boston but they are currently on the outside looking in.
The Bruins have seen a lot of key players depart over the past few seasons and it seems to finally be catching up with them. The losses of Patrice Bergeron, David Krejci, Tuukka Rask, Zdeno Chara, or even Linus Ullmark are showing as Boston doesn’t look like the same contenders they have been for the past decade.
The biggest name for the Bruins that could be traded is their captain, Brad Marchand. Drafted by Boston in 2006, Marchand has worn the spoked-B since 2009 and has exemplified what it means to be a Boston Bruin. Unfortunately he is generating a fair amount of trade interest and could very well be traded before the deadline.
If Boston is to move on from Brad Marchand, it is important to remember everything he has accomplished as a Bruin and why he has cemented his legacy as a Boston legend.
Brad Marchand has played over 1000 regular season games for Boston and has tallied 976 points, fifth most in franchise history. Marchand has the fourth most goals in Bruins’ history with 422. He is Boston’s all-time leader in shorthanded goals with 36 as well.
Marchand has won one Stanley Cup with Boston in 2011 and made two other Stanley Cup Finals appearances in 2013 and 2019. He is also a two time All-Star selection.
As the deadline approaches, it will be more clear which direction the Bruins will be going in. If they want to start rebuilding, Brad Marchand could be moved to a contender. If Boston thinks their window isn’t fully closed yet then Marchand could very well be a Bruin for his entire career.
