I can’t remember if it was the 3rd, 4th or 5th Marine Division that while in the middle of Operation Detachment, the taking of the Japanese stronghold of Iwo Jima during World War II, that one of the field commanders halted the ground assault during the crucial battle. When pressed by command why the offensive was ground to a halt, the commander stated in no uncertain terms, “Tired, I ain’t gonna lie.”
“Tired, I ain’t gonna lie,” has long been an arrow, although seldomly used, of truth in the quiver of available answers to those seeking specific knowledge in their quest for the betterment of all mankind. Blunt, brutal, truth spewing from every pore right there, that’s what it is. It takes a real man (or woman, or other, or “insert pronouns here”) to admit, I just ain’t feeling it right now. Time to slow your roll there, Homer. I have important things to think about, like what sauce I’m going to toss those delicious Dairy Queen nuggets in after the game and stuff like that.
I wish I would of had the stones to say, “Tired, I ain’t gonna lie,” to my coach in practice when he told me I was dogging it or something even worse to that effect. I know for all that’s holy I would NEVER of had the balls to say that to my Father. If I had, I would probably be waking up from that coma right about now.
I have been in Anthony Richardson’s corner this whole time. I even mentioned on the podcast last week that I was 100% in on AR taking all the reps and getting game time and experience. Ride or die and give the kid a chance to develop. I think AR can be great. If I am wrong, I’ll admit it next year. This was bad optics all the way around for Anthony and the Colts. THIRD AND GOAL, in a divisional game that would determine the Division leader with playoff positioning hanging in the balance and you want to take a break for a box of grape Juicy Juice? Dude! You have teammates out there playing hurt and playing through God knows what and you’re tired? Michael Pittman is out there playing with a broken spine, and you want to take an F’ing Kit Kat break? Look up “leadership skills” in the Oxford English Dictionary and I’d be willing to bet you the phrase, “Tired, I ain’t gonna lie,” is nowhere near it.
