The race for last place: Why the Giants need the first pick

Have you ever felt so inept that every idea you tried blew up in your face? Well, the New York Giants are firmly in that phase of their rebuild. To make matters worse, heroes from the surprising 2022 playoff team are thriving elsewhere.

Leonard Williams, Xavier McKinney, Julian Love, and Saquon Barkley are all playing great football with their new teams. Meanwhile, the Giants can’t make good roster moves, can barely draft, and have failed to make the right call at quarterback.

Why does this team need the top draft pick? Because they are a dumpster fire, and the fans are at the end of their rope. The Giants need a leader — someone who can lift the team not just through their play but by their leadership. Think of Joe Burrow or C.J. Stroud when they entered the league. Since winning their last Super Bowl in the 2011-12 season, the Giants have made the playoffs only twice. As a fan, it’s frustrating to see this rebuild continue in such a disjointed manner, with failed draft picks, fired coaches, and general managers. This team is falling apart.

Previously, I hoped the Giants would draft a quarterback. Now, all I want is a leader. Talent can be found anywhere, but what this team desperately needs is someone to bring them together. Whether they trade players, make cuts, or overhaul their approach, something has to change. For the rest of the season, the Giants should play their young guys to see what they’ve got.
