Tavares Stands Out in Leafs Win Versus Jets

The Toronto Maple Leafs responded well after going on a three game losing streak last week, lead by former captain John Tavares, who sealed the deal in the Leafs’ 6-4 win versus the once undefeated Winnipeg Jets.

The Winnipeg Jets entered this game unbeaten, 8-0-0, while the Leafs had an underwhelming record of 4-4-1, the odds were all in favour of Scott Arniel’s side. However, the Leafs came out flying on all cylinders with a John Tavares hat-trick scoring 6 goals against a top defensive team in the NHL.

Even losing the “C” on his jersey, Tavares remains a key leader in the locker room.

“John Tavares on the ups and downs of the season: “It’s a long year, so it’s important not to beat yourself up too much. Obviously, there’s a certain standard we need to play to and expect every single night. We have to hold each other accountable and stay focused on our game, recognizing how we can improve and the identity we need to maintain. Trusting and believing in the group is key. We have a very deep hockey team with a lot of skill and different elements. It’s about trusting that and ensuring, like tonight, that the process of our game is strong.”

Tavares remains a unrestricted free agent with little to no talks yet regarding an extension between his camp and the Toronto Maple Leafs.
