Show Me Your “O” Face

The vast majority of Colts fans were not too happy with Coach Shane Steichen’s decision to bench Anthony Richardson.  Between the fans, the media, the losses and the level of play, Shane was forced to rethink his prior decision and return AR to QB 1 for the Colts-Jets matchup.  That switch, in big part led to the Colts pulling out a victory at New York’s Met Life Stadium.  For those of that were unaware, NY is so bad that even the Jets and Giants refuse to play there.  They built their shared stadium elsewhere.  Met Life Stadium is in New Jersey.  On a warm day you can still smell NY though.

In his return Anthony looked good.  The time off helped.  Made some smart decisions, avoided the stupid ones and walked away with a 3 TD Win and a little swagger in his step.  The D came to play early on in New Jersey.  The Jets did not get a first down until the last two minutes of the half.  By the way they turned that into a TD.

The Colts defense, as usual refused to make any halftime adjustments and as usual, it showed.  Including the 7 at the very end of the first half, the Jets popped 27 on the Colts to eliminate their once precious lead.  This non-adjustment by the defense has been an issue all season.  Unfortunately, we haven’t found a cure for Gus Bradleentitus.  I’d like to suggest amputation, please.

While it is so much nicer starting the week after a win, I need to put some things in perspective.  As I’ve said over and over a W is a W, but the Jets aren’t a very good football team.  Aaron Rodgers is 40 years old and Father Time is catching up with him.  Maybe Aaron and his NFL nursing home roommate Joe Flacco can retire together and reminisce about the good old days of nickel candies at the corner store where you could also get a phosphate soda in your favorite flavor from the soda jerk for just a dime, or about when they invented the gas-powered automobile.

While yes, the win was important, it had equivalency of hanging a picture on the refrigerator with magnets.  “Oh looky there Colts!  You did such a good job.”  “I’ll tell you what, I’m just going to put this right on the refrigerator so everyone can see it!  Yes I am!”  While it was nice seeing the offense getting some things done on the field, I couldn’t get away from the image of a high school senior shoving a scrawny freshman into a locker and actually thinking he had accomplished something.  I’m sorry but it’s like challenging a senior citizen to a boxing match when you are in the prime of your life.  Sure, it would be fun to see someone getting pummeled, but at some point you have to feel sorry for the guy getting the crap kicked out of him in front of a national audience.

I don’t want to take anything away from our victory, but I had to put it in context.  Now we are on to the Coliseum to be thrown to the Lions.  Incase you were unaware, the Lions are the same team that hung 52 points on the Jaguars who, coincidentally hung 37 on us in their October victory.

Do I think we can beat the Lions?  No, but that doesn’t mean I won’t be in the Luke this Sunday screaming For the Shoe and tailgating before with the Blue Crew.  I just have a bad feeling that we are about to be shoved into a locker and Detroit is going to have a nice pretty W to hang on their refrigerator.  Come on Colts, prove me wrong!
