As the Pittsburgh Steelers and San Franciso 49ers are coming off their byes for week 10 in the NFL, the Steelers have posted the fourth best record in games following an off week since bye weeks began. There are still a handful of teams that have not seen their bye week yet, but the following teams will play every week for the rest of the season beginning with the games being played on November 10:
(Detroit Lions, Los Angeles Chargers, Philadelphia Eagles, Tennessee Titans, Kansas City Chiefs, Los Angeles Rams, Miami Dolphins, Minnesota Vikings, Chicago Bears, Dallas Cowboys, Pittsburgh Steelers, San Francisco 49ers)
In week 10, four teams will remain at home while the rest of the league will be on the field. Those four are the Cleveland Browns, Green Bay Packers, Las Vegas Raiders, and the Seattle Seahawks. For the remaining NFL teams without having their bye week, those lie ahead with week 14 the final weekend without several teams playing and thus it will be 13 straight weeks without a break for the Baltimore Ravens, Denver Broncos, Houston Texans, Indianapolis Colts, New England Patriots, and the Washington Commanders.
The team with the best winning percentage coming off a bye belongs to the Philadelphia Eagles who have won 36 of 50 games played following their off week or a league best 72% winning percentage. Not far behind Philly are the Denver Broncos with a record of 35-14, just one win short of Philadelphia’s total. The Ravens are next at 24-10 followed by Pittsburgh who are playing the Washington Commanders next following their bye and go in with a game after bye record of 33-15.
NFL teams that have failed to post a winning record in games after a bye are:
Carolina (16-17-0), LA Chargers (19-21-0), Arizona (17-20-0), Houston(10-12-0), NY Giants (19-24-0), Cleveland (16-21-0), Tampa Bay (17-23-0), Las Vegas (17-24-0), NY Jets (17-25-0), Cincinnati (14-23-1), Seattle(15-26-0).
Then there are teams who have posted an even .500 record. They are:
Jacksonville (17-17-0), Washington (22-22-0), and Detroit (20-20-1)
As we are now in the second half of the season, the playoff picture is slowly coming into play. If the post season were to start today, here are the current seedings:
AFC
NFC
Will this be the same after week 17? That remains to be seen. Will the chiefs “3-peat?” Only time will tell.
