Murphys Hockey Law: Progress Made But Swayman Not On Camp Roster

The Boston Bruins kick off their 2023-24 training camp on Wednesday, and as of Tuesday night, restricted free agent Bruins goalie Jeremy Swayman will not be on the camp roster when players report for off-ice testing.

The Boston Bruins released their camp roster late Tuesday afternoon. Swayman was not listed as one of the goalies scheduled to be at Warrior Arena on Wednesday morning. However, Bruins general manager Don Sweeney will be there and address the media as early as noon ET. Unless he’s announcing a Swayman signing, Sweeney likely won’t have much to say on contract negotiations with Swayman and his agent, Lewis Gross. While this obviously isn’t the news that Bruins players and fans want to read, it doesn’t mean that there hasn’t been progress on a new contract for the 25-year-old goalie that the Bruins hope is their man between the pipes for many years to come.

An NHL source with inside knowledge of the Swayman negotiations confirmed various reports throughout Tuesday that talks between the two sides had picked up.

‘That’s all true, but how much progress has been made, I can’t tell you for sure right now,” the source told Sick Media News on Tuesday night. “I don’t think either side wants to go short-term here, but they agree that they want Jeremy playing for the Bruins, and they want that happening ASAP! Does that wind up being a bridge for now?”

Here’s the full roster for the start of the Boston Bruins training camp:
