Maple Leafs Shopping Defenseman Timothy Liljegren

After being a healthy scratch during the two first games of the season, it has been made official that Leafs’ defensemen Timothy Liljegren will be shopped around on the trade market by the Leafs organization.

Despite signing a two year extension during the off-season, Timothy Liljegren has had a rough training camp, and has quickly become the scapegoat in Toronto. Conor Timmins and the newly acquired Jan Hakanpaa have left GM Brad Treliving no choice to react regarding the future of the Swedish defenseman.

Liljegren, 25, was drafted 17th overall in 2017 and has yet to live up to his potential. It has been a rocky road throughout his five years in the NHL with the big club, who found himself in numerous trade rumours before. This time, the situation in Toronto is set and there is more of a chance he is dealt than not.

The right hand defence position has become a hot commodity in today’s trade market, there is a world where the Maple Leafs can acquire a second round pick and a B/C prospect for the services of Liljegren. Nothing is imminent, but it is something to keep track of over the coming weeks regarding Timothy Liljegren and his future with the Toronto Maple Leafs.
