Lightning Rebound After Losing Skid, Spark Three-Game Winning Streak

After a 2-1 shootout loss at home to the Philadelphia Flyers, the Tampa Bay Lightning had just lost their fourth straight game. Tampa Bay had a week off to rebound from that losing streak and they’ve done just that by starting a three-game win streak. On Tuesday night, the Lightning extended their win streak to three games with a comeback overtime win on the road over the Pittsburgh Penguins, 3-2.

Tampa Bay started this win streak at home with a 4-1 win over the NHL’s top team, the Winnipeg Jets. Andrei Vasilevskiy’s 300th NHL win made this victory especially special. Vasilevskiy became the 40th goaltender in NHL history to win 300 games. He achieved this in just 490 games, becoming the fastest to do so and surpassing Jacques Plante by 31 games.

In their next game, the Lightning shutout the New Jersey Devils, 4-0. Vasilevskiy made 29 saves, and Nick Paul, Darren Raddysh, Victor Hedman and Anthony Cirelli all scored goals en route to the win.

Heading on the road again, Tampa Bay went to Pittsburgh. Before the game, the Lightning received great news as Brayden Point was back in the lineup after missing two weeks with a lower-body injury. The Penguins took a 2-0 lead with goals from Jesse Puljujarvi and Rickard Rakell, but Point’s return turned out to be huge.

Going into the third period down two goals, the Lightning needed a spark to ignite a comeback. Point did just that by scoring a goal at 5:41 of the period, and the lead was cut to 2-1. At 12:49 in the period, Anthony Cirelli got himself on the board with a goal, tying the game up 2-2 and sending it into overtime.

Earning a point on the road after trailing most of the game was good, but Tampa Bay was looking for more in overtime. With just over a minute left in overtime, Point scored the game winning goal, his 10th goal of the season, and the Lightning won 3-2.

On the last goal, Tristan Jarry was out of position after misplaying a shot attempt from J.J. Moser. That gave Point the opportunity to sneak the puck in the net for the win as the Lightning improved to 10-6-1 with 21 points.

Tampa Bay stays on the road for their next game, traveling to Columbus to take on the Blue Jackets tonight. The Lightning will look to add to their winning streak, but they will be without Nick Paul due to an injury.
