Leafs forward Nick Robertson suffered an upper body injury last night versus the Detroit Red Wings after a captivating two goal performance.
After a summer filled with trade rumours regarding Leafs’ Nick Robertson, including a trade request, he has come out with something to prove in pre-season, with five goals in four games. Despite finishing the game last night versus the playoff hungry Detroit Red Wings, the Leafs announced this morning that he was listed as day-to-day with an upper body injury.

Robertson, had 14 goals and 13 assists throughout 56 games last season with the Maple Leafs, and given his impressive start to training camp, it won’t be a surprise he starts the season in the top six alongside John Tavares and William Nylander, if he’s healthy by then, of course.
The almost 24 year old isn’t the only one who has suffered an injury this early, even before the season. He joins the list with Canadiens’ Patrik Laine and David Reinbacher, along with Rangers’ Artemi Panarin and Ryan Lindgren, amongst many others, including his teammate John Tavares who suffered an injury in game one of pre-season. Many fans across the NHL have been calling for a reduction of pre-season games going into next season, and it may be a wish come true, with TSN’s Pierre LeBrun speculating that those removed games can be added as regular season games, as discussed in the Governor’s meeting in New York earlier this week.
The NHL and NHLPA have already chatted about it and will do so more seriously in CBA talks: reduce pre-season to 4 games (and add 2 games to regular season to make it 84).
That’s the idea anyway. We’ll see where it goes in CBA talks.— Pierre LeBrun (@PierreVLeBrun) October 2, 2024
An interesting season is expected with Nick Robertson, with many questions regarding his future as a Toronto Maple Leaf, and whether or not his trade request may be rescinded in the coming weeks if he gets the playing time he is seeking.
The Leafs are preparing for game one of the NHL season on Wednesday night at the Bell Centre versus the Montreal Canadiens, where they will be hoping for a quick recovery for Nick Robertson.
