Laval dropped a 2-1 OT game to Rochester last night at home, cooling off the AHL’s hottest team. Lukas Rousek scored the game-winner on a breakaway with 44 seconds remaining in overtime after Logan Mailloiux fell and coughed up the puck in Rochester’s zone.
It was a classic goaltender’s duel, with Rochester netminder Devon Levi and Laval’s Jakub Dobes stealing the show. Dobes made 27 saves, and Levi made 26, several of the spectacular variety.
The game was marred by a controversial decision in the first period, which left it scoreless. The officials took more than 15 minutes to determine that Sean Farrell’s goal was, in fact, not a goal. There are no reasonable explanations as to why they came to that conclusion.
Rookie Laval center Florian Xhekaj opened the scoring on a shorthanded breakaway in the first period, but it was quickly answered by Brett Murray 45 seconds later as his centering pass banked in off Laval defenceman William Trudeau.
